American Bullfrog (Native)

The American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is a large, robust frog native to North America, especially widespread across the United States and parts of Canada. Known for its deep, resonant "jug-o-rum" call, the bullfrog is often heard near ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams during the summer months. This amphibian plays an essential role in its ecosystem by helping control insect populations and serving as prey for many animals. Interestingly, bullfrogs can grow quite large, with some reaching up to 8 inches in body length, making them one of the biggest frogs in North America. While native to many areas, the American Bullfrog has been introduced elsewhere where it can become invasive, outcompeting local amphibians. Their impressive jumping ability and loud calls make them a fascinating species to observe in the wild.
